These concerts are always special for us at Voices Be as HGC has played an integral part in Voices Be’s story. The original members of the collective all met whilst they we’re part of the choir, the choir director (Tosin Akindele) is the CEO of Voices Be and many of the musicians involved in HGC (Shout out to Dave Onac – the choirs music director) have also performed and written with the collective and the agency. So I’m sure you can see the connection and overlap between HGC and the whole of Voices Be.
But this concert had added ties as the brilliant Harrop Fold choir also performed. Voices Be has a brilliant relationship with Harrop Fold and provides some singing and music lessons for the school that follows Voices Be TCP programme, so it was a joy to watch them preform their own arrangements as well as performing with HGC.
As if this wasn’t enough of a connection we also had the pleasure of watching collective member and HGC alumni, Remi, perform with his new band “Reminiscence” and they did an excellent job!
But sentimentality aside how were the choir???
Well… they we’re amazing! The night was so much fun, there were serval moments when the audience could not help but get up on their feet and join in with the choirs infectious joy. An absolute highlight for me was “for your glory” originally performed by Tasha Cobbs. The choir really got the spirit of the song and completely followed the emotion that was provided by the soloist India. Her performance was moving, her tone was so rich and her confidence in what she was singing about was apparent.
The choir always put on a great show and they definitely did not disappoint!
